YouTube Videos for YouTube Marketing

YouTube Marketing

When you decide to look at  YouTube Videos you can use the various tabs and tools on the viewing area as research tools.

Homepage

Use the Homepage as a way of seeing what is happening in a general sense.  All the different categories will show you what users and the marketplace are looking for and what is popular.

Videos Being Watched, Videos Recommended,Featured Videos,Most Popular across all categories will all indicate what is being served and what is being demanded, in real time and with view numbers right off the start.

Video View

When you view a video out of the search box there are two tabs on either side of the views number that can give you valuable data.

YouTube Marketing- Data tabs

Data Tabs

The one on the left expands the description box and shows an expanded version of the video description. It will also show any added links and product urls the video producer is promoting.  It is a good way to see how that producer sells their products or promotes their service.

The tab to the right of the views number is just as useful.  It can show the popularity of the video or more importantly, it can show the trending data, geographic reach and demographic profile of the intended audience.  This is valuable data you can use in your market research.

Channel

In the Channel , check out the subscribers and friends.  This a great way to see who the followers are that make up a market for the product or service of the channel.  It is a great way to see who the customers are.  This is the type of “out of the box” thinking that can help you find out who the buyers are for a product or service.

If you want more details on how this marketing research works. Check out my videos on my Channel.

I hope this is helpful.

YouTube – Channel vs Homepage

YouTube Marketing

Understanding Channel vs Homepage

For some YouTube is a resource for kids to place funny videos.  For the Internet marketer, YouTube is the second most used search engine after Google search.  YouTube is serious business and the sooner you know how to use it, the sooner you can make a profit or two.

The first thing you need to do is set up a google email account in order to sign up with YouTube.  It’s free and easy to do.  You need a Google account login to do a lot of things with Google related products, so you might as well set one up.

The second thing is to create a YouTube account. That’s easy also.  Username, postal code, location, gender, email opt in and you are off and running with a YouTube account.

The first basic thing to understand is the difference between your YouTube Channel and your YouTube Homepage.

YouTube Channel

YouTube Channel

YouTube Channel

As you build out your YouTube account with content, either videos you favorite or download from the web or videos you create yourself, you are going to display them to the viewing public through your Channel.

Your Channel is going to have a look and feel you have selected from the library of themes and settings in your account.  Or it will look like a theme you will have designed for you.

Think of your Channel as your YouTube website.

YouTube Homepage

YouTube Homepage

YouTube Homepage

Your YouTube homepage, on the other hand, is your back office display that you configure in your account. It shows a variety of content selections from favorites to whats trending and hot.  Think of your Homepage as your personal YouTube display for research and analysis.  It shows you what is moving and what people are looking for on YouTube.  It serves the same purpose as Google Trends or Google insights if you know how to use it properly.  It can bring you a wealth of information about the marketplace and your market.

You use the Homepage area to develop ideas for content and products.  So get to know it well.

Conclusion

When you first set up a YouTube account the distinction between a Channel and a Homepage is not always clear.

I hope this article helps you understand the difference between the two.  If you want to see the difference, check out my video.

Database Panel – cPanel Hosting

Database Panel Information

Database Panel - cPanel Hosting

Database Panel

The Database panel of your cPanel Hosting account is not going to be the first place you start out working with, but it is something you should be familiar with when managing your web sites.

It has 4 icons that offer different functions.  For the most part, though, you should first use and access the Database functions with the assistance of customer service of your Web host.  That ensures that a well trained and qualified MySQL and PHP admin service rep is there to help you out and avoid any errors.  You don’t want to screw up the database to your web site if you can avoid it.

MySQL Databases

This is the area that allows you to create and manage your databases.  Here is the web host definition of the function. MySQL Databases allows you to store lots of information in an easy to access manner. The databases themselves are not easily read by humans. MySQL databases are required by many web applications including some bulletin boards, content management systems, and others. To use a database, you’ll need to create it. Only MySQL Users (different than mail or other users) that have privileges to access a database can read from or write to that database.

You can create a database in this section.  You can define who gets access to a specific database if you want to add anyone. And you see the list of active databases you have along with a list of users who have access to your account.

MySQL® Database Wizard

This is a function that allows you to create a database.  It replicates the same function available in the previous icon. It is a convenient way of just focusing in on adding to your database list without all the other distractions of the MYSQL Database main page.

phpMyAdmin

This is the area where you manage the different individual tables of a database.  Unless you are familiar with database management, I would leave this area to a trained customer service rep of your web host if you want to go change anything.

The one thing you can do is select a database and go into the wp_options file to see which specific web site that database refers to.  I don’t always remember which database code refers to a specific website and going into phpMyAdmin for a particular database and selecting the options file will tell me which web site that database belongs to.

Remote MySQL

You can allow external web servers to access your MySQL databases by adding their domain name to the list of hosts that are able to access databases on your web site. This is something you may need later, but when starting out I would not worry about remote access.

The Database panel is something you should become familiar with over time.  At the outset I would recommend working with your databases through customer service until you are comfortable with knowing how to manage and edit files.

I hope this has been helpful. If you want more information to see how to use Databases, check out my video.

How To Use The Software Services Panel – cPanel Hosting

How to Use the Software Services Panel

Software Services panel - cPanel Hosting

Software Services Panel

The Software Services panel is an important one to know about for the beginner because it holds the software you need to create web sites and blogs.

In the configuration I have on my host, there are 2 icons I would consider.  The other icons all refer to programming languages that I do not know or write so I don’t worry about them.

QuickInstall

The QuickInstall icon offers a software package that makes it easy to set up all sorts of programs.  The one of most interest for beginners is the Blog Software tab.  This is the section that offers 5 different type of blog platforms to choose from.  Wordpress is one of them and that is the one I recommend for its ease of use and its current popularity with the search engines.

There are all sorts of different tabs offering chat, cms, photo, forum and more types of tools to set up.  The best thing to do is go in and test some of them and see what they can offer.

The only thing about QuickInstall is that it is in beta so there could be some bugs that have to be worked out as of this point in time.

Fantastico Plus

Fantastico Plus offers the same kind of service as QuickInstall only it has been around longer and is a well established  platform.  It has a sidebar configuration that offers all sorts of services including blogging software for WordPress.

That is where you should start when setting up your web sites and follow the process of setting up your WP site.

All the other icons in the panel refer to CGI,Perl,PHP,Ruby that require programming knowledge and practice that are beyond the skill set of a lot of marketers. So unless you are into programing I would not worry about how to use these features.

The best thing to do is to pick one of these icons and just experiment with what you can do with the various tools offered.  Just take your time and play with it.

The Software Services panel is pretty easy to deal with and you should find it a very useful tool for you to use.

I hope this has been helpful.  If you want a closer look at the panel, check out this video.

Stay with it, stay well and May Your Travels Be Prosperous.

Preference Panel – cPanel Hosting

Preference Panel

The Preference panel is probably one of the most overlooked panels when first starting out and yet it can save you a lot of time and aggravation if you take the time to go through it.

Getting Started Wizard

Preferences Panel - cPanel Hosting

Preferences Panel

The Getting Started Wizard will take you through the initial steps of setting up your account properly and takes no time at all.

The first screen is an introduction to web hosting that explains how the major directories work in your account.  Just this page alone would have answered basic questions I failed to understand when I started out.

Web disk is an easy way to set up a file transfer process between your computer and your host account so you can move files back and forth without having to use an FTP system.  It is a great way to get going and saves a lot of time if you are not familiar with FTP software.

The New Email account setup shows you how to setup your email account system.  This is necessary to get you started properly since you will be managing multiple email accounts as you add web sites to your business.

Set default address: The default email address will “catch” any mail that is sent to an invalid email address for your domain. All mail that is sent to an address that does not exist will go to the default email address. To send all default mail to the main mail account, type the user name of your cPanel account in the email address input field.

Webmail allows you to check your email from a web browser as opposed to a desktop mail application such as Outlook Express or Thunderbird. This means that you can check your email from any web browser. Please make sure to log out when checking your email on public computers so that other people cannot read your email.

Contact Information and preferences:Email address that you can be contacted at. This should be an email address that is not on your account if you have one.

Change Style allows you to pick the theme or look and feel of your cPanel page.

Video Tutorials

The Video Tutorials is one of the most useful resources.  There is a video only demo (no audio) of just about all the main functions of the cPanel.  Going through it can answer a lot of your questions before a problem arises.  I found it useful and a huge time saver.

Change Password

Change Password does just what it says. You can reset your password at any time.

Update Contact Info

Here you can choose email contact addresses outside the hosting account to receive information about your status and settings.

Change Style

This feature allows you to select or change the look and feel of your cPanel page

Change Language

Select the language for your account.

Shortcuts

cPanel shortcuts are links you can add to your desktop or your browser’s bookmarks toolbar. They are an easy way to access your cPanel. You can drag and drop a shortcut for cPanel and one for Webmail.

There you have it. The Preferences panal of your cPanel hosting account.

Go through it and you will save yourself a lot of time and aggravation.  I wish I had when I first signed up.

That’s it.  I hope this has been helpful. If you want to see video about the Preferences panel, check this out.

Stay with it, stay well and May Your Travels Be Prosperous.
