Register a Domain Name Part 2

How to Register a Domain

Directing Your Domain To Your Host Servers

Domain Registrations starting at $9.69

In Part 1 we saw how you could use Namecheap to look for and select a domain name.

You researched your different options and picked a domain name.  You then clicked your selection and opted to pay. You paid and got the domain name.

Now you have to point the domain name to your host servers.

Step 1

You have to sign up with a host service. There are many available but the one I recommend is Hostgator. In the first video I mentioned Hostmonster, but there is also BlueHost, Go Daddy and a bunch of others.

For the purpose of starting out, I would pick a shared host, which means you share the server with other site owners who also rent space on it, and take advantage of the relatively cheap $10 monthly cost.

When you sign up, you’ll get a confirmation email with the log in information for your new hosting account along with the names of two servers that will host your websites. You want to make a not of those servers because you will need that information in order to redirect your domain name from Namecheap, or which ever domain registration service you use, to your host account. These server numbers will look a bit like this: ns123.hostgator.com,ns124.hostgator.com.

Step 2

With your information at hand, you can now redirect your domain to your host.

You log in to Namecheap.  Go to the tab manage accounts and click it.  You will see the name of your new domain.  Click on it.  You will find yourself at the information page about your domain.  On the left hand side bar there is a tab called Transfer DNS To Webhost.  Click it and a new windows offers a screen with 5 input boxes.  Copy each of the host web server numbers in the top two boxes and select Save Changes.

Once you have done that you are done.  You have redirected your domain name to your web host servers and you are ready to go to your host and start setting up your site.

And that is all there is to it.

If you want to watch a video of this set up, go to my YouTube Channel and check it out.

I hope this information helps you in getting going and watch for my next one on how to use the cPanel at your Web Host.

With that, stay well, stay with it and May Your Travels Be Prosperous.

Domain Name Registration

How to Register A Domain Name

Domain Registrations starting at $9.69

The first thing you will need to do when you grow your online business is learn the domain name registration process.

It is not complicated but in the first experience of doing it, you may feel intimidated or unsure of how to proceed.  Well here is a quick primer.

First Step

The first thing to do is find a site that specializes in domain registration.  The one I recommend is NameCheap.com.  It is easy to use and easy to set up.

The first thing you do is go to the site and at the top left hand corner, type in the name you want to check out for your domain and web site.  This can take several tries and take the time to test to see what is available.

One point is that the dot com address is what you should try for first.  If it is hard to get you can always opt for a dot net or dot org domain name if need be.  There are plenty of theories about using only dot com over the other options.  Just remember that the most important thing is to get your keywords in your domain title and make sure it is a domain that is easy to remember and is relevant to what your site is going to be.  If the dot net or dot org gets you there, then go for it.

Step Two

Once you have settled on a name and are satisfied with what you have, click the box next to the domain name and go to the bottom of the page and click the add to cart button or the buy button.  If you have an account you will be able to log in and pay by credit card or with pre-deposited funds you may have in your account for that purpose.

If you do not have an account, now is the time to sign up by opting to join NameCheap.  It is easy and once you have filled in the fields and set up a credit card account, you can pay the $10 or so for the domain name.

When you have paid you will be the proud owner of your first domain.  The license is good for one year, after which you can opt to renew.  You also have the option to buy for multiple years if you want.  That is something you can decide for yourself.

And there you have it.  Two easy steps that get you set up with your own domain.  If you want to you can take a look a my video that explains the very same process.

So go for it and get your domain selected and registered.

The next post will show you how to set up the domain to point to the host site of your choice.  The one I use and will show in the video is Hostgator.  So if you are done , go look at my next video on how to point the domain at your host servers.

That’s it.

WordPress Dashboard Video Series

WordPress Dashboard

I have put together a video series on my YouTube Channel, YouTube.com/ClaudePelanne, a fifteen part video series about the WordPress Dashboard and how to use it.

I did it because I remember what it was like trying to find a one stop shop to learn the basics for WordPress.  And I remember I couldn’t find what I needed to know all in one spot.

So I created this series to get you information in short videos that would lead you through how to set up your WordPress site the right way from the very beginning.

Take a look at it and let me know what you think.  Even better, give my videos a boost with a thumbs up if they help you any.

Remember, it’s all free, so take it and make things happen.

Below you’ll find a list of the current offering to get you there right now.

WordPress Dashboard Video Series

WordPress Video Series

I’ve got a series of videos about WordPress and the WordPress Dashboard available for your viewing pleasure.

WordPress Dashboard

It all started from my own need early on to learn some of the basics of how to set up a WordPress site.

Even the simplest thing of how to log in and make sense of the dashboard was really hard for me and I was surprised to find out how hard it was to find a video that took you from the most basic point to get started.

Also, how to set up a WordPress site on my Web host account was a real time of frustration.  I could make sense out of the cPanel and what all the different functions and steps were in the process.

That’s why I did the cPanel video series.  You can find those videos on my YouTube channel or cycle through the video box on the right hand side bar of this site.

Getting back to the WordPress Dashboard series, you’ll find all sorts of information to help you figure out the steps of understanding the dashboard, to setting up plugins and how to enter content and create pages.  Remember there is a difference between a post and a page.

So give it a look. If you want to get information about WordPress and how to set up a site, check out my channel at YouTube.com/ClaudePelanne and go out there and do it.

That’s the message for this post.

Enjoy and May Your Travels Be Prosperous.
