CPanel eMail

The  cPanel eMail panel comes set up with a bunch of preset programs.  The one I have has 14 icons, all programs with a specific function in mind.

The most important, or least the most used for me are the first two: the email accounts icon and the webmail icon.

The Email Accounts is obvious; that’s where you set up your accounts for your main domain and for the sub domains and your add on domains.  This area allows you to create email accounts, define passwords and quotas for them.  And you can manage each account separately if you choose.

The Webmail icon is where you go to access the email accounts in one screen.  You can select to have all of them feed into the mail box or you can choose to unsubscribe and not have them accessible if they are not active enough. The three programs available are HORDE, Squirrelmail and Roundcube in Cpanel or you can forward to client and read the mail in a browser.

Box Trapper is an email verification tool. Itr protects your inbox from spam by forcing all people not on your white list to reply to a verification email before they can send mail to you.

Spam Assassin is an automated email filtering system that attempts to identify spam messages based on the content of the  email headers and body.

Forwarders lets you to send copies of all your email messages from one email account to another.

Auto Responder lets you set up automated email responses  from your various email accounts.

Default address will catch all the emails that are sent to an invalid email address for your domain.

Mailing lists can simplify sending messages to a large group of people. You can add a group of email addresses to a mailing list to avoid typing in those addresses each time a mailing is sent. This can be very useful when sending newsletters or other updates to large groups of people. You can configure specific settings for your list once it is created by clicking on Modify.

User Level Filtering lets you manage filtering for each user. Each user’s filter is processed after the main account filters.

Account Level Filtering lets you manage filters for the main account. You can test existing filters.

Email Delivery Route allows you to view how the mail server will treat a message when sending to or delivering to a specific address. If you enter an address on the server, it shows how the mail server will deliver mail to that address. If you enter an address that exists somewhere other than this server, it will show how the mail server will attempt to send mail to that address.

Import Addresses/Forwarders lets you import email addresses or forwarders from Excel spreadsheet files (.xls) or comma separated values sheet files (csv).

Email authentication is the effort to equip messages of the email transport system with enough verifiable information so that recipients can recognize the nature of each incoming message automatically. Enabling email authentication will help fight the spread of spam.

MX entry lets you change Mail Exchange records for your domain and define on which server to deliver the message.
