How To Register A Domain Name – Update video

I am putting together a “How To” series for beginners on setting up your own website for  business.

Naturally the first place to start is registering a domain name.

Of course if you already have an offline business, you have a business name and brand you will want to register that as your domain.

If on the other hand, you want to create your business from scratch, then you will want to give some thought as to what you will want to call it.

Going for an exact match domain or a more generic “brand” name is subject for another post and series, but suffice it to say, what you decide on, you will have to have some idea of the extension you will settle for, .com, .net or .org.

There are plenty of theories about the value of .com over .net or .org and certainly over all the other extensions like .info, .us, .co and more.  Whatever your thoughts, you will have to decide on a domain name and extension while going through the process shown in the video above.

Once you find a domain name that is available, it is a matter of a few easy steps to reserve that domain and getting it pointed to the servers of your web host. I use NameCheap to register all my domains and there are any number of other services that will do it for you.

That is what the video above shows you how to do. So take a look and learn that first step.

If you find the video helpful, don’t forget to “lik”, “tweet”, “Google+”, “Pin” or Stumbleupon to let others know that there is help for them to get going. Many Thanks for your support.

For those who prefer to read, there is a transcript of the video so just hit the “read more” button and enjoy.

Claude Pelanne here, Affiliate Starting Line, welcome. I am going to do a series of videos on how to get a domain, how to set it up, and get it registered to a WordPress site. In other words, what the process is. In this video let us take a look and see how you get a domain name.

In my case I come to Namecheap.com. I have an account here, so I will log into my account. I have, as you can see her, 8 domains, anyway, one just expired, I am going to get a new domain because I want to do that. If you don’t have an account, you will get to a screen like this, and it will eventually ask you to register and sign up for an account. You should do that, because if you are in the business of internet marketing, you will want to do that.

I am looking for WPtrainer.net, let us see if there is anything. This is going to be a training site that I am going to use. Trainer.com is gone, but WPTrainer.net is there, so I am going to go with it. [inaudible: 01:25] We will Add to Cart and we will checkout. It is going to ask me to register contact information, my information is in there, it looks fine. This is already going to populate because I already have an account, once you have created an account, it will do that.

Domain Renew Settings. Automatically Renew, yes. Enable Who Is Guard, yes. Do Not Renew [inaudible: 01:59] I already got Automatically. Use our free name servers, use custom servers. So here is, if you have servers, I am with HostGator, I know that it is going to ask for some server numbers, so I am going to get those and put those in. I have those, if you do not, you are going to have to sign up with a host site. Your host site will automatically give you that information, you should have it on a notepad, just like I have there. I will put those in, save, and continue. It is asking me for $10.87, I will check out with PayPal, so I have got to put in my . . . I have paid it off now, so it is processing the purchase of the domain.

You saw what I did. I went in and found a domain name that I wanted, I clicked and went to the checkout. It asked me if I wanted to buy Who Is Guard, which protects the information about the domain, I said yes, it will automatically renew the domain. It gives me a confirmation here that I can download as a PDF. Here is my download, I will download this, save the download, so I have got the receipt. Now I own this domain. Now let us go to my . . . it has confirmed it. I have got a one year on the Who Is Guard, I got one year on the domain, and that is how it is when you buy a domain. If I look at my domains, I will look at the list, WPTrainer.net is there.

That is how you buy a domain. You saw that that was pretty easy, the actual process itself is easy. All you do is come in here and type in a domain, if it is available, you click through it, if not you keep testing names until you get them.

The next step is going to be going to HostGator and signing up that domain as a WordPress site, and that is further in video two. So that is it. I hope this video has been helpful, this is Claude Pelanne, Affiliate Starting Line. Stay with it, stay well and we will talk to you soon.
