OK so I know there are a ton of videos on how to set up a wordpress website, but I’m putting together a video ebook down the line and having a new update on how to use cPanel and Fantastico to set up a site seemed in order.
So here it is. This is the latest video I made showing how to take the domain that you pointed from Nameheap and go into the Domain Panel of cPanel and select Addon Domain.
You’ll see how to create an Addon Domain in real time and then go to the Services Panel and click on Fantastico to start the WordPress site set up.
The video takes you though how to fill out the form and create your website. For detail copy you can read on and go through the transcript of the video which follows this short intro.
So there you have it.
If you find the video helpful, please give it a “tweet”, “like”, a “pin”, a “stumbleupon” or even better a “Google+”. That will let your friends who may need the help find this video and website.
Many thanks for your support.
In the meantime, stay well, stay with it and talk soon.
Claude Pelanne here, Affiliate Starting Line, welcome. This is the second video in the video series that shows you how to A, register a domain name, and B, how you then create a WordPress web site.
In the first video we did, I showed you how to come in here to Namecheap, type in whatever you’re looking for, for a web site. I was looking for WPTrainer, I found that WPTrainer.com was already taken, but dot net was not, so I opted for dot net. During the course of the purchase process, I entered in the server IDs that I got from my web hosting site, HostGator, so that I could point the domain at Namecheap, towards my web host, in this case HostGator. We did that in video one, if you want to get an idea of how to do that, you just go back and take a look.
The next step is to come in to your web host account, in my case it is HostGator, and you are going to come down here to get to your cPanel, Bluehost, HostMonster, and a bunch of others have the same looking cPanel. You want to come down here to your domain’s panel and click on Add-On Domains. Now you are going to add on the domain you just purchased from Namecheap, the registrar, so WPTrainer.net subdomain. You can fill in whatever you want for a password. Once you got that done, you click Add On Domain, and it is going to come back and take a minute or so. It is still doing its thing, you can see the little circular panel, circulating.
The next step that we are going to do, now that the Add-On Domain domain was created, it is giving me a confirmation. The next step that we want to do is go back to our main panel, and we want to come down to Services. I am looking for Software Services, Fantastico de Luxe. You want to click on Fantastico De Luxe, then you want to come up here and look for WordPress, you want to click on WordPress. Then we want to Add a New Installation, then we want to pick among the Add-On Domains, the installation we are looking for, which is WPTrainer.net. Install in the Directory, I leave that blank. I want it to go in the main directory, I don’t want it to go as a subdirectory.
Administrator Username, I generally take the name of the site I am creating. The password, you need this to get into the admin area. That is not what it wanted to do. Yes, that is what I want it to do, password, you need this to enter, so I will put that in. The Admin Name, I am going to, again . . . Site Name, Sepilon, I want it to go to my main email. Site Name is WPTrainer.net. Description, I always put it in, you don’t have to, ‘WordPress Training,’ then install WordPress.
Now it is going to create a MySQL database. I want to click, Finish the Install. Now it is going to give you some information here, it is going to also send you an email. You want to keep that information, because it confirms that you created your web site. I always make an image of it, and I have it down.
The way you can try to figure out if your website, WPTrainer.net . . . Here it is, we just created a WordPress web site. It is a template right now, it is the very basics, but the steps that we just took, created it.
Just to recap quickly, we went into our cPanel. We started with an add-on domain, we created that, then I came down and a little hard time finding the Services, right here. We came into Fantastico, we clicked on that. We went into WordPress, and clicked on that. We clicked, New Installation, then we filled in these boxes. I picked the name of his website, I filled in the administrator name, I filled in a password, and went back in and gave it an admin name. This is a default administrative website. I created a new site name and put a description and clicked, Install WordPress. What we ended up getting out of that, is this right here. That is how you create a WordPress web site.
You might have noticed that at the end of the preceding video, there was a dot com added to my web site. The problem that I had was, when I was in Fantastico and filling in my site name, it added this dot com in the back here, as you can see, I went ahead with the installation. The way I fixed it is, I went into the back office. That is just a site name, it can be changed. I went to my back dashboard of the new site that I created, and I went into the Settings and General Settings, and sure enough, it appeared up here as WPTrainer.net, in this case, dot com. What I just did, I came in here, deleted it, clicked save, and that corrected the title problem. Now I have what I am looking for, WPTrainer.net, that is how I fixed this.
You will see when we go through the series on how to setup a web site, and I have it another video, but you come into your General Settings and you can really get specific on how you want to name your web site, and you can change things dynamically, in the back-end. That is how I made that little fix, for those of you who saw that was a dot com there, it is no longer there. That is how easy it is to go back in and fix things in WordPress.
I hope this has been helpful. This is Claude Pelanne, Affiliate Starting Line. Stay with it, stay well, and we will talk to you soon.
