Never thought I’d see a picture of Marcel Pagnol awaiting me in Facebook when I logged in today. But there was his picture. Smiling and ready. Seems my profile id’s are now communicating on a whole new level.
FB is scaling to offer more related content to me based on my profile defined likes and interests. I suppose I’ll be getting some book suggestions or maybe even Pagnol’s trilogy offered pretty soon in my ads.
There’s a howl going up now about where the privacy disclosure plans for FB are going though you can always opt to make your profile selections private.
As a marketer I think this offers demographic targeted marketing. This means a very interesting opportunity of reaching a finely targeted customer for a product or service. For charities and not profits it also means a whole new world of possibilities.
I wouldn’t rush to judgement just yet before seeing how all this will pan out. I think it will be a great way of receiving relevant suggestions for things I am interested in. And as a marketer it give me the opportunity to find a way to connect to the marketplace.
