SEO Review – How People Interact with Search Engines

In this review we take a look at Chapter 2 in the Guide and how people use search engines to find what they are looking for.

Search Types

One takeaway is the types of search the guide identifies.

There are three types of queries being performed:

  • The transactional query
  • The Informational query
  • The Navigational query
In the video you’ll see what defines them and how you should be familiar what they represent.
To the extent you web page satisfies the basic intent behind the search query when your visitor lands on your site, you will do just fine.
You’ll learn the steps in the search process that should help you understand how the search engine will interpret what the outcome was.
If the visitor stays around to read your content you are fine, if the visitor clicks away, the search engine will take notice and you will face the consequences.

The Heat Map

Another  important takeaway is the expose of the heat map.
That is the study that showed how the upper left hand portion of a web page gets the most focused attention of your visitor.

This also means that in the search results page, those ads at the top will get a good shot at the searchers attention before the organic results that fill in below.

As the volume of search grows and people turn to the web in increasing numbers to look for information it is important to understand what the nature of their query is and where you can place information on the pages you create so you can maximize the results you are looking for.

So take a look at the video, and as always, “tweet” it, “like” it or “Google +1″” it if you find the information helpful. Many thanks for your support.

For those who prefer the spoken/written word, read on. There’s a transcript of the video.

Stay with it, stay well and tune in for the next review.
