How To Use YouTube Browse for Market Research

I just had a comment from a YouTuber about a video I did on the Browse function in YouTube.

When I reviewed the video I saw that some of the Browse feature had changed so I made the video below to go over the changes.

Channel Listings Gone

Basically the main change is that Channel listings of the most viewed and popular Channels no longer appear in the results.

What you now get are the following headings:

Each one of these heading has an option to dig deeper by categorie in a drop down or as part of the selection in the landing page that is broken down into different headings.

You’ll see what I mean when you screen the video.

Market Research Using YouTube Browse

The point is that the Browse feature can be used to see trends and what is moving and hot on YouTube and it comes in real handy as an out of the box way of researching niches and products that might be great to market.

So take a look and see if you can use this in your online marketing efforts.

That’s it.

Stay with it, stay well and talk soon.

Affiliate Marketing for Beginners- A Great Source of Free Tutorials  – YouTube

Over the past week I have received two emails from a membership site that I have paid to join. They both offered video tutorials.  One on setting up a confirmation page to capture names and email addresses before sending prospects to a merchant’s landing page and another explaining why your should use a robot.txt file to streamline search engine indexing of your blog or site.

The content of the videos was useful and certainly something I wanted to learn.  The only thing is I had already found these tutorials on my own some time ago.  The place where I found them was YouTube.

The lesson here is a short one.  Why pay for content that you can get for free?  So before you go out and pay good money, try going and doing a search on YouTube to see if a video tutorial exists there.  There is a reason why YouTube is now the second most active search engine on the Web.

If you want to see how to create a robot.txt file and upload it to your root directory of your site or blog, I’ve posted the videos on my YouTube Channel.  Check it out it’s free.

YouTube Charts

YouTube Marketing

YouTube has introduced a new video section called Charts where it will be featuring top videos

It’s called Charts and is designed to keep you updated on which videos are trending in real time and also which are all time stand outs.

It also shows how videos measure up against each other.

It takes the top 100 in the most viewed, most subscribed and most liked categories.

You can filter by time frame; today, this week, this month and all time.  The one exception is the most subscribed does not filter for the today time frame.

YouTube would like to hear some suggestions from the community, so feel free to let them know.

I would like to see a break down by genre, say comedy, news, pets following the video types you can drill down on the browse categories page.

That said, it’s a great tool to see what is trending and I already got a couple of ideas of what might be some good niches to research.

So take a look and see for yourself.  You can check it out at www.youtube.com/charts.

I also have a video you can check out called YouTube Charts on my YouTube channel if you are a visual learner like me.

So stay with it, stay well and may your travels be prosperous.

YouTube Honors – YouTube Marketing

YouTube Video Marketing Series

I have recorded a series of videos on YouTube video honor categories.

I also include categories that are not defined as “honors” but that are important to know about.

Under videos, I counted 14 different categories that you will find on the YouTube Homepage. That is the generic Homepage that you find when you are NOT signed in to your YouTube account.

Just to list them: Video Categories

YouTube Video Series

YouTube Video Series

Spotlight videos

Videos Being Watched Now

Featured videos

Most Viewed

Rising Videos

Most Discussed

Most Responded

Top Favorited

Top Rated

Now what they all mean is not always as obvious as it seems and what is more, some overlap to include the same video in more than one category.

What the video series does in illustrate what these categories and honors mean.

Now five of these categories are considered Video Honors recognizing certain performance parameters.

Here is the YouTube definition of them:

Most Viewed - Videos that were uploaded within the selected timeframe (Today, This Week, This Month, All Time) that have generated the most views compared to other videos uploaded in this time frame. For example, Most Viewed – Today shows videos that have been uploaded in the past approximately 48 hours and have generated the most views.

Most Discussed – Videos that were uploaded within the selected timeframe (Today, This Week, This Month, All Time) that have generated the most comments compared to other videos uploaded within this time frame. For example, Most Discussed – This Week shows videos that have been uploaded in the past approximately seven days and have generated the most comments.

Most Responded – Videos that have received the most video responses within the selected time frame (Today, This Week, This Month, All Time) compared to other videos within this same time frame. For example, Most Responded – This Month shows videos that have received the most video responses in the past approximately 30 days compared to other videos within the same 30 days.

Top Rated – Videos that were uploaded within the selected timeframe (Today, This Week, This Month, All Time) that have generated the highest star rating compared to other videos uploaded within this same time frame. For example, Top Rated – Today shows videos that have been uploaded in the past approximately 48 hours that have received the highest ratings compared to other videos uploaded within this same time frame.

Top Favorited – Videos that were uploaded within the selected timeframe (Today, This Week, This Month, All Time) that have been favorited the most compared to other videos uploaded within this same time frame. For example, Top Favorited – This Week shows videos that have been uploaded in the past approximately seven days and have been favorited the most compared to other videos uploaded in this time frame.

All this is to help us better understand how to use YouTube more effectively as a marketing tool.

YouTube Videos for YouTube Marketing

YouTube Marketing

When you decide to look at  YouTube Videos you can use the various tabs and tools on the viewing area as research tools.

Homepage

Use the Homepage as a way of seeing what is happening in a general sense.  All the different categories will show you what users and the marketplace are looking for and what is popular.

Videos Being Watched, Videos Recommended,Featured Videos,Most Popular across all categories will all indicate what is being served and what is being demanded, in real time and with view numbers right off the start.

Video View

When you view a video out of the search box there are two tabs on either side of the views number that can give you valuable data.

YouTube Marketing- Data tabs

Data Tabs

The one on the left expands the description box and shows an expanded version of the video description. It will also show any added links and product urls the video producer is promoting.  It is a good way to see how that producer sells their products or promotes their service.

The tab to the right of the views number is just as useful.  It can show the popularity of the video or more importantly, it can show the trending data, geographic reach and demographic profile of the intended audience.  This is valuable data you can use in your market research.

Channel

In the Channel , check out the subscribers and friends.  This a great way to see who the followers are that make up a market for the product or service of the channel.  It is a great way to see who the customers are.  This is the type of “out of the box” thinking that can help you find out who the buyers are for a product or service.

If you want more details on how this marketing research works. Check out my videos on my Channel.

I hope this is helpful.

Stay with it, stay well and May Your Travels Be Prosperous.
